Rules of the Rock

The purpose of the Spirit Rock is to promote school spirit at Lansdowne and celebrate our students.
  • You get to reserve the Spirit Rock for 24 hours
  • You get to paint the Spirit Rock to celebrate Lansdowne and/or its students
  • 100% of the money goes back to the Lansdowne PTO to support our students, faculty & staff
  • The rock may only be rented by Lansdowne families
How Does the Process Work?
  • BOOK IN ADVANCE: Reservations MUST be made in order to paint the Spirit Rock
  • USE THE LINK: Then select a date on the calendar
  • PAY FOR YOUR SPOT: A fee of $10.00 per day must be paid AT THE TIME of reservation
  • BE ETHICAL: By making this reservation, you agree to adhere to the Lansdowne Code of Ethics when painting the rock:
    • All rules as outlined in the CMS student rights, responsibilities, and character development handbook and Code of Student Conduct MUST be obeyed. No exceptions. (No bullying, no profanity, obscenity, or derogatory language.)
  • SINGLE FILE: Sign-ups are for one person per day
  • IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE: You will have the rock for 24 hours beginning at 5:00 pm the day before
    • E.g. If you reserve the rock for August 25, you will have the Spirit Rock beginning at 5:00 pm on August 24 through 5:00 pm on August 25
  • ADULTS ONLY: A parent or teacher may make a reservation on behalf of a student or student group
  • MAYBE NEXT TIME: If there is not a sign-up button on for a particular day, that date has been reserved
How Do I Paint the Rock?
  • LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: The rock is located on the grassy section between Folger Drive and the school’s car pool lane
  • SPRAY IT: The most popular paint to use is spray paint – it dries in several minutes, whereas latex paint and paint that is rolled will take several hours to dry
  • SPRAY IT AGAIN: You will probably need 2-3 cans of spray paint for a good base coat (more if your base coat is white) to cover the entire rock; 1 can if covering just one side
  • LET'S BEGIN: Depending on the number of colors in your message, a minimum of 1 can is needed per side - or, Pay a Painter (details below)
  • BE CREATIVE, BE-BE CREATIVE: (that's all)
  • TAKE IT OFF, PLEASE: Do not attach or adhere anything to the rock as part of the decorations
  • EARTH IS OUR FRIEND: Please be kind to our environment and recycle your empty cans
